#RacismNotWelcome – The Power of Conversation
Recently I sat down with the wonderful Gloria Tabi, of the #RacismNotWelcome campaign, to record a talk for the group’s YouTube channel.
Our Discussion
Speaking with Gloria was a great chance to raise further awareness for this important initiative, by sharing our personal thoughts on, and experiences of, racism.
We focused on the role that conversation plays in tackling issues surrounding racism, and also covered other essential topics. Gloria and I discuss issues such as racism in Australia, white privilege and racial profiling during the COVID-19 pandemic.
#RacismNotWelcome
For those not yet familiar with #RacismNotWelcome, the following quote from their website is an excellent summary of the group and their goals:
The #RacismNotWelcome campaign is a community-led, grassroots initiative intended to acknowledge the existence of racism, validate people’s lived experiences with racism and normalise conversations about racism whilst igniting change

The Street Signs
Any Sydney-siders among us have noticed #RacismNotWelcome street signs appearing around the place and wondered what they were all about:
These signs are the physical manifestation of the underlying principle that racism exists, it is real, damaging and deeply harmful to many Australians and that we all have a responsibility to confront it, every day.

I’m a big supporter of this initiative, change requires conversation, and I believe that these signs prompt the conversations we need to have. Please see the resources below if you would like to learn more or become involved yourself.
